How it works
Pygmy goats are pregnant for about 147 days, with most does kidding somewhere between day 145 and day 150. That is a few days shorter than full-size breeds and a couple of days longer than the Nigerian Dwarf, the other common miniature.
The Pygmy came to North America from West Africa, and it is built differently from the Nigerian Dwarf: short-legged, deep-bodied and heavy-boned ("cobby"), bred as a small meat and companion goat rather than a dairy goat. Because the body is so wide, a Pygmy doe can look heavily pregnant for weeks, which makes the breeding date the most reliable guide to when kids will arrive.
Pygmies can breed year-round, not just in fall. Litters of 1–4 kids are possible, with twins the most common. Bucklings mature very early, so a pet herd that keeps a young buck with does can get surprise pregnancies in any month.
How to use it
Enter the breeding date, or the day the buck went in and the day he came out if they ran together. The Pygmy preset (147 days) is already selected. If the sire was a Nigerian Dwarf or a full-size breed, switch the breed to match the dam and sire.

Frequently asked questions
How long is a Pygmy goat pregnant?
About 147 days, or just under 5 months. Most Pygmy does kid between day 145 and day 150 after breeding.
How many babies do Pygmy goats have?
Usually twins. Singles are common in first-time does, and mature does sometimes have triplets or, less often, quads.
How old should a Pygmy doe be before breeding?
Many breeders wait until a doe is about 12 months old and well grown. Pygmy doelings can come into heat much younger, so keep bucklings separate until you choose to breed.
Can Pygmy goats get pregnant any time of year?
Yes. Pygmies can cycle year-round, unlike most Swiss dairy breeds, so they can be bred for kidding in almost any month.
